Poker positions: UTG, HJ, CO, BTN and the blinds
Your position is where you act relative to the dealer button. At a 6-player table (POKER AULA’s base format), in preflop order of action: UTG HJ CO BTN SB BB.
Why it matters
After the flop, the button acts last. Acting last gives you information: you have already seen what the others did before you decide. That is why you can play more hands from late position (CO, BTN) than from UTG, where five players are still left to act behind you.
At 9-player tables there are more early positions (UTG+1, MP, LJ). The idea is the same: the more players left to act, the stronger your hand needs to be to get in.
