Check back

What it means

Checking after your opponent has checked, so the street ends with no bets. The player who acts last does it. It is used to see a free card or reach showdown cheaply, but with a strong hand on the river it gives up value.

Example

On the river the BB checks and you, on the BTN, check back with second pair: you reach showdown for free. With the nut flush, checking back would win you nothing extra.

Also called: Pasar detrás · Pasa detrás · Check behind · Checkback
