Equity denial

What it means

Betting so that your opponent folds hands that are behind now but have a chance to outdraw you. It's not "protecting" at any cost: it makes sense when those hands fold and you don't give up much value.

Example

With an overpair on a flop with draws, betting folds out overcards and gutshots that, if they see free cards, sometimes beat you.
