Pot control

What it means

Checking a street or betting small so the pot doesn't grow too much when you have a medium-strength hand: it beats many worse hands but suffers against a lot of aggression. It wins less against opponents who call a lot, so it depends on the opponent and the SPR.

Example

With top pair and a weak kicker and a high SPR, you check the turn instead of betting: the pot doesn't grow and you reach showdown with a hand that beats many bluffs.
