Scare card

What it means

A turn or river card that improves one range much more than the other: an overcard only the preflop raiser has, a card that completes the caller's draws or one that pairs the board. It changes who can bet strongly and how many credible bluffs there are.

Example

BTN against BB on K♠7♦2♦: the A♥ on the turn favors the BTN (AA, KK and AK aren't in the BB's range, since the BB raises them preflop); the 6♦ favors the BB, which called the flop with many flush draws.

Also called: scare card · carta de miedo · carta que asusta
