Short stack
What it means
A stack with few big blinds. What counts as "short" depends on the format: compared with the usual 100 bb in cash, 40 bb already changes the ranges, and with 10–15 bb you play push/fold. With a short stack, today's equity weighs more and what you win on later streets weighs less.
Example
With 40 bb, a 3-bet already commits a good part of the stack, so you play more 3-bet or fold and less calling. With 10 bb in the SB, the decision is all-in or fold.
