Standard deviation

What it means

How far results move away from their average; in poker it is measured in bb/100. It is your own figure: it depends on the format and your style. The larger it is, the more hands it takes to know your winrate and the more bankroll the same risk of ruin requires.

Example

With a standard deviation of 100 bb/100 and 10,000 hands, the winrate you see can be up to 19.6 bb/100 above or below the true one (95% interval). With twice the standard deviation, the same risk of ruin requires four times the bankroll.
