Balance
What it means
Mixing strong hands with weaker hands or bluffs in each action, so that your action doesn't tell your opponent what you have. That is why you sometimes check a hand that could bet: the checking range also needs good hands.
Example
If you bet big on the river only with very strong hands, an attentive opponent folds everything else; if you add some bluffs at that size, they have to call with their bluff catchers.
