Bankroll

What it means

Money set aside exclusively for poker, separate from your living expenses. Prudent management uses many buy-ins to absorb variance. It should only be money you can lose without affecting your life.

Example

A common conservative guideline in cash games is to have at least 30–50 buy-ins for your stakes: for 100 bb at 0.5/1, between 3,000 and 5,000 bb. It doesn't promise anything: it's protection against bad runs.
